Beaver NelsonThe Last Hurrah
Jon Pepper, Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers
Also from Freedom Records in Austin, this is one rousing
ride with a wild man at the wheel. A survivor of many
music industry wars, Nelson is a songwriter with an
interesting bent on the world and life. Often compared to
Townes Van Zandt, Nelson comes across with flair as he
works his way through some moody-yet-almost-upbeat
tunes. Too Much Moonlight, Forget Thinkin and
All Over are mysteriously dark in a most subtle
fashion. Backed up by the likes of Casper Rawls and
Gurf Morlix, this long awaited first project from Nelson
makes a strong statement. More lone-wolf troubadour
than stadium star, Nelson is effective and in possession
of those 'crazy eyes' only writers who go to the soul's
depths see through. Fascinating!
